
The annual ‘Avurudu’ Celebration of APIIT Kandy Campus “APIIT සූර්ය මංගල්යය 2023″ organized by the Students Activity Club was brought to a successful conclusion at the Wagolla ground, lewella on the 7th of April 2023.
In order to make this Avurudu the most memorable possible, Clad in vibrant traditional clothing the respective Students and Staff members enjoyed a delicious celebratory feast and participated in a variety of culturally inspired activities and games throughout the day indicating a lively occasion. The event was effectively wrapped up with a DJ party that mixed modern youth and energy with authentic Sri Lankan culture.

Being a significant festival to the people of the Island, the dawn of Sinhala and Tamil New Year is celebrated with much splendor and fanfare. According to traditional astrological belief the transition of the Sun from the House of Pisces to the House of Aries marks the beginning of Aluth Avurudu (in Sinhala) and Puthandu (in Tamil) and is celebrated on the 14th of April every year. The entire island adopts a joyful and festive atmosphere as people prepare for the forthcoming celebrations by cleaning their homes, shopping, and preparing New Year’s treats to start the New Year off on a happy and upbeat note.
